Explorer's Camp 2008 3rd - 5th Grade Adventures: BioBlitz- will explore biodiversity of plants and animals and the effects of human impact on them. Throughout the course of the week the campers will do bio- assessments on terrestrial as well as aquatic ecosystems. June 16th-20th, 2008 Game-On - The athletes make it look so easy, but in Game-On camp we will look at secret science behind their success. Exploring the body, the laws of physics and equipment, 3rd - 5th grade campers will walk away looking at sports in a whole new light. Camper will see demonstrations, try out moves themselves and conduct experiments that help us discover the science of sports. June 16th-20th, 2008 Just Beneath the Surface- Have you ever wondered what makes a pond a pond? Campers entering 3rd - 5th grade who chose to join us in looking beneath the surface will discover for themselves the secrets behind this mysterious aquatic world. They will start by examining the water itself and then peer into the depths to find insects, tadpoles, fish, microscopic organisms and more. June 23rd- 27th, 2008 Dig-In Time - Dig-In Time is an archaeological adventure offered to campers entering 3rd - 5th grades. As part of an archaeological team the campers will undertake an expedition to uncover the secrets of the past. Written records of history in Texas begin with accounts of the Spanish explorers less than 500 years ago – but people came to Texas more than 11,000 years before! The unwritten story of those thousands of years lies hidden in the Texas soil! Come join us for a Dig-In Time and help uncover and discover the untold stories! June 23rd- 27th, 2008 Astro-Kid Academy- Join a week of astronaut training! Astro-Kid campers will explore the universe, learn a little about the physical and mental preparation for space exploration & the science behind launching a NASA shuttle as well as their own rockets, and explore the International Space Station. Part of their training, like real astronauts will take place in the semi-weightless environment of a pool! June 30th- July 4th, 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth- Join us on a journey through time, as we explore the Geological Time Scale! Participants will discover Geological changes over the past billions of years, and will take a close look at the creatures who walked, flew and swam millions of years ago. June 30th- July 4th, 2008 Good Vibrations - Where does sound come from? What kind of sounds are created by combining instruments? How are sounds different in brass instruments versus string instruments? How does the human ear process these sounds? Design your own instrument and create your own sound. This will be the camp heard 'round the campus. July 7th- 11th, 2008 Chem-2-Kids - Between kick the can ice cream to making our own bouncing balls this camp will explore chemistry in a fun light! Campers entering 3rd through 5th grade will dive into the many mysteries of chemistry with hands-on activities, experiments and demonstrations that will knock their socks off!
