Cooper’s Hawk

by Alice Delaney

Come meet the “bird-feeder” predator, Cooper’s hawk;

Named that because at the bird feeder son birds he does stock.

Though these birds are a favorite, it is also true

That the hawk will feed on small mammals too!

You might catch a glimpse of this bird called the hawk

In woodlands & streamside forests they tend to flock.

When winter rolls around, though, to Mexico they take flight,

Seen atop of telephone poles and soaring to great heights.

And look quit close and you just might see

His eyes face forward and help catch prey that would flee.

With this hawks ability to get dinner it would be easy to miss

His red and yellow eyes among other physical attributes on the list.

About the size of a crow, but make no mistake,

This raptor, or hunting bird, no prisoners will he take!
