The Bobcat

by Alice Delaney

The bobcat looks much like a tall house cat.

One thing you will not find, though, is this cat ever fat.

And inside is not where these cats reside,

For living alone’s how they like to abide.

In woodlands & forests & often-near ranches or farms,

They eat small mammals & birds no doubt often near barns.

Truly in these places their delicacies are found

For here in great quantities do these foods abound.

Actively searching at night for these great goods,

Or even at daylight, truly they could,

Be found hunting in rock crevices, thickets or nests,

The where’s & what’s of hunting the bobcat knows best.

When dinner isn’t finished the cats cover with ground,

Saving for later the snack hidden from others, & hopefully, unfound.

And the only time the bobcat has relatives who are around

Is when babies are born, numbering two to seven can be found.

A bobcat’s skills are imposing; to watch is a treat,

Swimming, climbing or leaping ten feet.

Eyes with reflectors make their night vision acute,

For Texas surviving, the bobcat is made to suit!
