 The Black-Tailed Jackrabbit

 by Alice Delaney

Late in the evening and into the night

The black-tailed jackrabbit plays out of sight.

If you could see them you would find,

They like prairies, shrub lands & deserts the best of land kinds.

With long ears that aid a sharp sense of hearing,

Not to mention great eyesight, to sense if they should be fearing.

When danger abounds these rabbits can really fly

Running faster than a racehorse or jumping up to five feet high!

And when their babies are born it doesn’t take long,

For after a couple of days they’re following along.

Trailing their mommy wherever she hops,

Going where she goes & stopping where she stops.

You say greens & broccoli you cannot stand?

Well, veggies are the favorite of this Texas clan.

Maybe making friends with these jackrabbits would serve you well,

Especially when eating veggies after hearing the dinner bell!
